ATTAGIRL: Bond with Other Outdoors Women

Kim Bryant // May 23

ATTAGIRL; interjection, Informal. Used as an enthusiastic expression of encouragement or approval to a girl, woman, or female animal.

How does it start? One woman has the courage to step out of her comfort zone, reach out to another, and find commonality in the pursuit of happiness, trust, and virtues, not being alone, making a change, and creating a different path for herself, all while embarking on an unfamiliar journey. The step may be a little scary, but you do it anyway. If I have one statement I live by it is, “Do it even if you’re scared.”

If you take the trip, you can find a group of women you connect with, you soon realize you may have met by chance, but create a bond that sticks like glue. The qualities each lady brings to the group are unique in their own way. Some are listeners, others are cheerleaders, coaches, serious ones, the comedian, the mother of the group, and the wild child of the group.

When it is all said and done, having a female friendship is the utmost reward. Girlfriends will build you up and inspire you, you won’t be judged, some will mentor you, and some will understand exactly what you are going through. They will be honest and tell you the good things and some will be there to deliver the hard truth. There is simply nothing as comforting as knowing you are no longer alone than discovering that female friendship.

The next time; you want to take that hunting trip, go on that spur-of-the-moment girl's weekend, learn a new skill, go to a crafting DIY class, meet for brunch, learn how to cook wild game, grow a garden, forage the woods for herbs and flowers to make jams and jelly, maybe learn to read a map, possibly the opportunity to learn to back-up a trailer, go fishing, create groups and chat every night? When you take a step out of your comfort zone,  you will learn you don’t have to be alone.

The benefits of finding your girlfriends are empowering and helping you become the best version of yourself. Pursue your dreams, create bonds for life, and join the group where you are celebrated not competed against. Those female friendships provide a safe place for women to share their thoughts, feelings, and experiences without judgment, as women we often face challenges in the outdoor community that our male counterparts do not experience or may not understand.

The unspoken bond that will develop when you give a ladies' event a chance. Join these groups, You will gain so much, not only opportunities, but you will gain friendships not the kind of friendships where it’s all about gossip, judgment, and superficial temporary satisfaction.

Sign up for the event, and travel to meet like-minded women you don’t know, you’ll end the trip with bonds that stick like glue, and empower the heck out of you!
