A firearm is an inert object that cannot be trained. It only becomes dangerous when we add a person. Don’t play with guns. Always follow the rules. Guns can kill and you don’t always get a second chance for safety.
Basic gun safety can be covered with these 10 Commandments.
- Always keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you are ready to shoot. Always.
- Store ammunition and firearms separately. Always.
- Avoid alcohol or drugs when handling firearms. Always.
- Learn your gun – know the proper mechanics and handling features of the gun you are using. Always.
- Be certain of your target, your line of fire, and what is beyond your target. Always.
- Always keep the gun unloaded until you are ready to use it. Always.
- Never point the gun at anything you don't intend to destroy or kill. Treat every gun as if it’s loaded. Always.
- Be sure to open and free the barrel of any obstructions prior to loading or shooting. Always.
- Use the right ammunition for your gun. Always.
- Be aware of your surroundings as to not trip or lose your balance. Always.
