Who is a sucker for a great outdoor adventure? If that sounds like you (probability = high since you’re reading an outdoor blog,) then look no further than Wild Med Adventures.
Find out why Wild Med Adventures provides a wonderful alternative to planning your next vacation:
While blindly booking a trip may be your mode, it is certainly not mine. I YOLO, with caution. First question you may be asking, what and who is Wild Med Adventures and why do I care? Wild Med Adventures offers continuing medical education trips all over the world. The best part, these are adventures of the outdoor kind AND you do not even need to be medical.
What can you expect on a trip?
I guess that depends a little on you and the trip that you choose. If you are a medical provider you can expect a unique alternative to mundane CME conferences. You can expect great people and incredible memories. You can also expect a well-organized pre-planned trip. This means a few things. That climbing trip to Kilimanjaro you’ve always wanted to take, the dive trip to the Red Sea, the fishing trip to Alaska-here’s your chance. Yet, it is made better because they have already worked out the details, the ideal locations, accommodations, and everything in between. Your packing lists, guides, rentals – the list goes on based on what is needed. Let’s level up again and point out that you will be with a team of professionals who run the trips and like-minded outdoorsy types who are there with you. As a GoogleDoc, shared itinerary-type planner of vacations, it was a sweet treat to show up at a recent Wild Med Event and just go with the flow. I was told when I needed to be where and was able to really soak up the landscape and experience that I may not have otherwise done if the brain was in overdrive planning where we needed to be next.
The double extra benefit was all of the learning that was disguised as fun.
Because, let’s be honest, if you’re on a snowboarding trip, riding dirt bikes, a goose hunt, or a wellness retreat, you will be having fun. What Wild Med Adventures does so well is dressing up these trips with the necessary skills for the individuals who are there doing and loving these activities anyway. If you are fly-fishing you should know about how possible injuries and accidents could occur and what to do. If you are diving, you want to be the dive buddy who can identify dive-related injuries. You’ll leave feeling confident while you’re on your way to mini-adventure rafting, birding, riding, or hiking.
If you’re new to the outdoor scene, flexing into different roles can be intimidating and possibly dangerous. While some of the trip options do require a certain level of technicality (climbing one of the seven summits is no small feat,) as long as you gauge your ability, Wild Med Adventures is a safe space to lengthen and strengthen those outdoor skills.
High-trained clinicians who dedicate their lives to wilderness medicine run both the company and the trips.
Many times when booking different outdoor excursions there may be a high level of skill in – let’s say climbing – but no knowledge of where to go or what to do if something does go wrong. These guides can have very advanced level technical climbing skills and hours on the rocks, and that is needed. What else is needed is the ability to meet each and every individual at their level and ensure a safe and fun adventure.
In life, we should promote brands, organizations, and people that are building a better world. I showed up at a Wild Med Adventure trip not knowing anyone and was welcomed with open arms. In fact, it was my birthday and they went out of their way to make sure I had a cake and was serenaded with the wonderful happy birthday song. Over just a few days we built a community, a sense of connectedness, and shared our knowledge and love for the outdoors. There were laughs, (fake) blood, and stories around the bonfire.
