With summer fast approaching, making sure you stack your water activities high is a must to try and stay cool. If you’re in Florida, there are endless choices. A great spring to highlight is Wakulla Springs, located close to the corner where the panhandle meets what I like to refer to as “Florida Proper,” although I’m sure native Floridians have another name for it. What makes Wakulla Springs a must-see spring? Let’s talk about all the reasons why!
Migrate over to Edward Ball Wakulla Springs State Park for a wonderful experience, especially for families.
With miles and miles of backwoods trails, find yourself wandering in the woods enjoying nature’s finest, keeping an eye out for wild animal trails, including deer and turkeys. Or grab a bike or bike rental to scoot around in a little quicker mode. Bring your camera in case you spot some fun bird species. Don’t forget to stop for a moment to listen to their beautiful sounds. Another gorgeous stop is the lighthouse with its beautiful landscapes and great observation tower. The kiddos will enjoy the playground, or if you are in luck, even the fishing rodeo! Wakulla Springs is also a great place for hunting, so don’t forget to set the alarm to apply for tags in the area.
Fun fact: Wakulla Springs is the largest and deepest freshwater spring in Florida, which means your water options are vast.
Swimming through the cool springs on a hot Florida day is the golden ticket. Grab the mask and snorkel to get an up-close look at underwater friends. Any scuba lovers out there? Wakulla Springs is a premier location to enjoy diving and/or exploring the underwater caves. Cap the day off with a scenic boat tour and sit back to enjoy Florida’s finest.
With all of the fun, you will no doubt work up an appetite: cue the stop at the Historic Lounge. Really feel the impressive expansiveness of Florida’s landscape with the beautiful views while you refuel. Wakulla Springs is the epitome of Old Florida, so if you are into great times and good oldies, it's the place for you. Head on down to the visitors center to get educated on all of the happenings and check out what fun festivals or other community events you can partake in while you are there.
