Earth Day is right around the corner, which makes it a great time to reflect on not only the ways you’ve benefited from her sweet love but also what you have and can do to help our wonderful planet thrive. The small changes every day make the biggest impact.
Here are some stellar ways to create change on Earth Day.
Go pesticide free.
Not only are pesticides not ideal for you and your people, but they wreak havoc on the Earth. Contaminating water (that you drink), destroying good organisms in the soil, and damaging biodiversity.
Learn about pollinators and plan a pollinator garden.
Bees, butterflies, and the like are considered pollinators; they are just what they sound like: they transfer pollen between plants, allowing them to reproduce. This is extremely important for biodiversity (yay buzzwords), general ecosystem health, and food. When they suffer, we suffer nutritionally, and they are suffering. To help combat losses, you can ensure your garden has a pollinator-friendly space where they can nest and feast. Top contenders are native plants that bloom continuously, pesticide-free soil, and keep it a little wild.
Gardening
Gardening in general is a great way to support the Earth and has many physical and mental health benefits for you. A lovely organic garden that you can enjoy the fruits (literally) of your labor. Leave some produce for the area animals to…you got it, support biodiversity. Start with one or two little ceramic pots or find a local garden in your community to contribute to. They always need extra supplies and hands to help.
Learn to compost or support a composting business near you.
Many composters will take your compost and turn it into soil that you can funnel right back into your garden. How cool that you can turn trash into treasure.
More easy wins include simply picking up litter on a day-to-day basis, going plastic-free, or transitioning to reusable bags. Alternatively, things we may not think about are disposing of electronics responsibly, as they are not biodegradable, or have buy-nothing days and bulk your orders to reduce shipping boxes.
Nothing is better than spending time with nature. Get outside, go to the park, or a forest bath. Reconnect and let the beauty of the Earth inspire you this year.
Sharing is caring, share with everyone you know that Earth Day is coming, and challenge them to take action. Pick a new Earth-friendly habit, create change on our planet, and encourage others to do the same. It’s not too late to look up an Earth Day event near you. Grab a friend and put your hands in some dirt!
