Hopefully, it is an honest hour where you are, because I have a confession: I have not spent a ton of time learning to clean my guns. Now, I CAN do it. I WILL do it, but over the years, I have admittedly allowed the people around me to do that dirty work. So when my sons added airguns to our arsenal, I started to care a bit more because now they needed to learn, and how could I put responsibility on them that I was not doing? Cue, figuring it out. So, when I got the opportunity to use the Otis Technology Airgun Maintenance & Cleaning Kit, I could put my skills to the test.
First thing I think about when cleaning (anything really) is what equipment I will need. When there is a kit, that means to check out what all comes with it, and if any, some, or none of what I want or am comfortable using. I also care about organization. Check and check for this kit as far as including the things that I want in a great reusable box where I (or the boys) can keep it separate and organized from our other firearm cleaning tools. The kit includes not only what I need to lightly clean but also really get into cleaning the O-rings, gaskets on the inside, and the delicate lens pieces on the outside.
It goes without saying that, like most guns, airguns can get expensive. Listening to all the upgrades the boys want or need goes hand in hand with wanting to make sure they are taking care of their things. I love that it comes with a wrench set that you can keep with the overall kit for easy disassembly. Once you get to the inside guts of the gun, the cleaning rod will help you get all around the inside. Also, the lubricant is silicone-based, which is what is recommended for airguns. There are brushes with sturdy bristles for detailed cleaning, which, circling back from above, when you are pouring money into this for your son’s hobbies, you want it all to stay pristine. We also love the gun cloth to keep the gun looking nice and newish-again, BOYS. Another great aspect is the fact that it is USA-made. We love to support our homeland.
In the effort to keep the review unbiased, I will say that it is a bit pricey, as you can get cheaper kits for airguns. With that being said, you have to look objectively at both the quality of the other kits and what is included. When you adjust for that and what you are getting, the Otis Technology Airgun Maintenance & Cleaning Kit definitely works. Again, you can for sure find a kit that is cheaper and will get the job done, but this could be at the long-term expense of your gun.
